Alice Temperley launched Temperley London with her husband, Lars von Bennigsen, during London Fashion Week in September 2000. The label has quickly grown to become one of the most desirable fashion brands in the world. Amongst many others, Temperley London fans include Mischa Barton, Demi Moore, Scarlett Johannson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker, Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts, Naomi Watts, Molly Sims, Keira Knightley, Halle Berry and Claudia Schiffer. The Temperley London Black Label, which is defined by incredible craftsmanship and timeless creations, is continuously featured on many of the most important Red Carpet occasions around the world.
Q. Temperley London is synonymous with desirable and beautiful clothes – was it this that inspired the label to produce a bridal collection?
Shortly after my own wedding in 2002 we began to produce The Bridal Collection – exquisite dresses, intricately embellished and finished to the highest standards – all with exclusive Temperley designed beading, embroidery or lace. There had been mounting requests from exisiting clients and friends to make their bridal dresses and subsequently the first collection was launched. Extensive experience working with lace, embellishment and embroidery meant the progression into bridal was a natural next step. The Temperley aesthetic translates easily into bridal due to its femininity and attention to detail.
Q. What is it about Temperley that draws so many celebrities do you think?
Temperley bridal collections are inspired by classic Hollywood black and white movies from the silver screen era – icons such as Grace kelly, and vintage finds. Emilia Fox, Jodie Kidd and I were all married in a Temperley London dress.
