We were asked yesterday by several brides whether it is too late to order their gown for this Summer? (This happened mainly because a local bridal shop went into liquidation last week leaving many brides high and dry – our commiserations to all those brides by the way, it must be their worst nightmare come true). Here’s the answer in case it helps.
Our motto at High Society is “everything’s possible”, so no, it’s not too late. We are lucky to have the back up of some fantastic designers who make all their gowns by hand in the UK, so it does make things a little easier for us to say this. I can’t really speak for the world of manufactured gowns, but I do know that where our esteemed British designers are concerned, they would always pull out all the stops to make a gown for a bride. This includes Alan Hannah, Suzanne Neville, Sassi Holford and Kate Sherford for us, but I’m sure there are many others besides. All of the above have helped us out in many short timescales before (we could tell you some stories over 10 years..but perhaps another time!)
I got married in 1993, long before I even dreamed that I would own a bridal shop, and organised my whole wedding, small as it was, in 6 weeks! So you’re talking to a girl who’s been there and done it! We understand that most brides like to take between a year and two years to organise their wedding, which is lovely, particularly if you love the whole planning thing. But if you find yourself in a situation where you have to, or you simply want to, organise your wedding in a short timescale, it is possible!
First of all make the phone call and ask, the shop may be able to help. They can usually phone the designer, and ask what is possible. Emma, my business partner in High Society, recently wrote in Tiara magazine, “Six months is plenty of time to order a dress, and for us sometimes less, as we stock gowns by British designers. We can speak to the designer and make arrangements for a “super rush” order, and we have in the past turned a dress around in less than 2 weeks”.
Secondly, you may be able to purchase a sample gown. Most bridal boutiques have a number of samples for sale, and it can be an excellent solution for a bride with a limited timescale, or indeed a limited budget (you may find a beautiful designer gown at a fraction of the price). This way, you take the dress home with you, giving enormous peace of mind.
