May 16, 2009 is the date of Britain’s Biggest Wedding Party!
Across Britain, The Big I Do ReDo are creating one big national party night by getting brides and grooms back into their wedding outfits for charity. Whether you’re approaching your first or your fiftieth anniversary, this is the day for you to throw a party to celebrate love and togetherness. And the great news is that you get to wear the most special and expensive dress that you’ve ever bought!
THE BIG I DO REDO: A Short History
THE BIG I DO REDO is the brain child of wedding photographer Julia Boggio, who also gained international notoriety as “the Dirty Dancing Bride” when she and her husband posted their wedding dance at Fonmon Castle, Barry, on You Tube (click here to watch them performing on their wedding day!). Over 5 million hits later, they’ve appeared on television shows across the world, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, where Julia danced with none other than Patrick Swayze himself.
When Patrick was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Julia decided to organise a nationwide charity fundraising event that celebrated love. As one of the UK’s top wedding photographers, Julia is always hearing her brides say that they’d love to wear their gowns again. Thus THE BIG I DO REDO was born!
Julia says, “I hope that this event will capture the imaginations of people across Britain. The day is about celebrating love in all its forms. Please do get involved.”
Julia chose two cancer charities to be the beneficiaries: Macmillan Cancer Support, who will receive the proceeds from parties at home, and Pancreatic Cancer UK, who will benefit from the London Ball and eBay Auction.
So if you know someone who’s just got married, or if your mum still has her dress tucked away, why not have a hen night or pre-wedding party to remember and raise money for a good cause at the same time? Plus, it’ll make for some great photos to show people on your own big day! Or, if you’re hunting for a bargin, check out the I Do ReDo auctions on ebay.co.uk from April 15th, where wedding-related experiences, romantic gifts and even two tickets to see Dirty Dancing in box seats will be up for grabs!
