It’s that time of year across the pond: The Running of the Brides! In case you’ve never heard of the event, here’s a quick summary: since 1947 a discount clothing store, Filene’s Basement, have held an annual sample sale day where hundreds of wedding dresses from various top-name designers are reduced to under $500. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? But it has become a vast, chaotic and world-famous event at their stores across America, as hundreds of brides and their teams queue to have a chance of getting a dress at a fraction of its original price.
Called ‘The Running of the Brides’ for the moment when the doors open and hundreds of frantic people literally race into the store and strip the rails clean, it is certainly a one-of-a-kind experience and many brides have come away with a great bargin. But watching the footage of brides stripping in the aisle, guarding piles of gowns from would-be-thieves and of course being filmed by the world press – just google running of the brides for more – I don’t think it’s the kind of dress shopping experience I’d enjoy!
If you’re looking for your dream dress at a bargin price, check out our Sample Sale – and rest assured, when you make an appointment, it’s just you and the dresses you want to try without any panic or pressure!
