One of the most enjoyable parts of my wedding planning process so far was asking my bridesmaids to be part of my special day.
Nowadays brides are thinking of more fun and unusual ways to ‘pop’ the question to their maids. I decided to take mine for Afternoon Tea, and give them a few little prezzies. Other good ideas include a flower arranging class, cocktail lessons and a long lazy lunch.
Here are some cute ideas to help make it fun!
I also wanted to ask my 3 year old Niece to be my flower girl, there are some lovely things to get them excited for the big day too!
Many brides are getting a bit more relaxed about what their bridesmaids wear. Traditionally, the bride chose the same colour and style of dress for all of her bridesmaids. It is not unusual these days for the bride to specify only the colour and length of the dresses, and leave the bridesmaids to choose their own style, as she appreciates that they will all have different figures. Bridesmaids designers such as Dessy and Lela Rose have a whole range of different styles in the same colour so that you can find a shape to suit every figure.
If you have a number of maids, it may be a good idea to bring your ‘Chief’ or ‘Maid of Honour’ to have a first nose at delightful dresses. Have a bit of fun and make her work for her title. Ask her to try on lots of different styles, shapes, materials and colours so you get more of an idea of what you want for the big day.
Once you have narrowed your choices down slightly, make a big trip with all your maids and put them to work trying, changing and swapping! A word of warning though, don’t give everyone too much choice…this can actually make it harder for everyone involved. Ultimately your bridesmaids only want to make you happy on your big day, they will appreciate you being honest and saying what is really important to you. Depending on how easily pleased your maids are, you may have to remind them who’ the bride! 🙂
